Dangerous goods

Goods are to be considered dangerous if the transportof such goods might cause harm, risk, peril, or otherevil to people, environment, equipment or any property
whatsoever.
 

 


Deadweight (DWT)

The total weight of cargo, cargo equipment, bunkers, provisions, water, stores and spare parts which a vessel can lift when loaded to her maximum draught as applicable under the circumstances. The deadweight is expressed in tons.

 

 

Delivery lead Time/Delivery cycle

The time between the receipt of the customer order andthe delivery of the product to the customer.

 
 

 

Demand

 

 

The requirement for a particular product or componentarising from a number of sources, internal or external.


 

 

Demand Chain Leadership (DCL)

Increased revenues and unique competitiveness through more efficient flow of goods, services and information.
 

 

 

Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)

A product design methodology that provides a quantitative evaluation of product designs.
 

 

Detail planning

The planning (at the lower planning levels) by which itis decided in detail where and when each activity can and/or must be carried out.

 
 

 

Direct costs

The costs which are directly allocated to a particular product. The classification direct and/or indirect costs and variable and/or fixed costs are not connected with each other. Direct costs can be both variable and fixed in nature: the same applies to the indirect costs.

 

 

 

Direct delivery

The conveyance of goods directly from the vendor to the buyer.
 

 

 

Disposable pallet/One-way pallet/Expendable pallet

Pallet intended to be discarded after a single cycle of use.

 
 

 

Distribution

Outbound logistics, from the end of the production line to the end user.
 

 

 

Distribution warehouse/centre

A warehouse that stores finished goods and from which customer orders are assembled.

 
 

 

Distributor

A business that does not manufacture its own productsbut purchases and resells these products usually maintaining a finished goods inventory.


 


Downstream

One or more companies or individuals who participate in the flow of goods and services from the manufacturer to the final user or consumer.


 

 

Drop shipments

Deliveries of shipments from a single shipper to multipleconsignees along the route leading to an ultimate destination.


 


Dual sourcing

Selecting of and working with two equivalent suppliersfor a certain product.
